| View from 2/3 of the way up Carrizo Peak, looking west northwest. The declivity between the two sets of mountains in the center ground is a pathway to the old Pecos Pueblo and the area around Santa Fe, New Mexico. It was a favored Apachean raiding and trading route in the 19th and previous centuries. Spanish, Mexican, and American forces, each in turn, complained that the Apaches had the ability to disappear into the landscape. |
