The betrayal of the individual seems all the more evil given the great hope and trust we invest in medical knowledge to heal us. We gladly submit our bodies to the power of biomedicine, which might cure us of cancer, heart disease, diabetes--or syphilis. There is no more prestigious science than the science of biomedicine. It has dominated our century, and will continue to do so.
