In 1975, the Vietnam war ended and the new socialist government headed by a communist party took control of the nation. The new government of Vietnam instated a communist development phase, which turned out to be an economice disaster. However, in 1986 an attempt to reverse past failures was made and the Doi Moi (economic renovation) reforms were put in to place. These new reforms have allowed for international investment and development in Vietnam. Since 1986, millions of dollars have been invested in a new more capitalist Vietnamese development process. These reforms made it possible to begin international development projects and farming systems research; an attempt to improve farming practices in Vietnam. As a result the Doi Moi reforms have given cause for hope of a better future in Vietnam.
