How The Malayan's (Malaysian's) were converted from Buddhism to Islam!
Introduction
What led me to explain how Malaysia isn’t a Muslim only country is the fact I’m a
Malaysian and had at my disposal the history of Malaysia. Since I already knew a lot about my country
and there wasn’t much that was written about the claim that I chose, I decided that it was the best
possible topic. My heartiest thanks also to Professor Heinz who helped me decide on this topic as there
was a possible topic that I had wanted to do but there wasn’t much facts written on the subject compared
to this topic.
My main source was the university’s library; Meriam Library. The library had many
books in it’s disposal and it also had Internet sources which I could use at no limited time. It was
through the Internet that I was able to request my friends and parents to send me the excerpts from
Sejarah Malaysia that I needed for this paper. The library also provided me with many books that were
related to my paper and some were of the actual experience of the writer during his stay in Malaysia.
The books by Sir Richard Winstedt, Victor Purcell , J.M. Gullick and so forth merely
provided proof of what I had already known and learnt from my history lessons in high school. The
history lesson was however conducted with the help of a history book written by Muzzafar Tate known
as Sejarah Malaysia . The books that were written by these English authors were able to help me
translate the knowledge that I had received from the Sejarah Malaysia text book which is written in
Bahasa Malaysia. The Internet was particularly useful because it was from my e-mail account I
was able to communicate with my Malaysian friends who provided me with the information that I
wanted and needed. Since the computer lab in Meriam Library was open for 24 hours, the time
difference between America and Malaysia no longer mattered because I was able to get hold of any
information I wanted at anytime of the day.
