Before Malaysia was known to the world as it is now, it was called Malaya. But even
before that, Malaya was known far and wide to the world as "Suvarna Bumi" or the Golden Khersonese.
In this land where it was once famous for gold, Buddhism and Hinduism had spread among the
Southeast Asian nations. That may be hard to comprehend especially if one visits this beautiful and
historic land where the indigenous people happen to be Malays, who is also the dominating population
that has embraced Islam as a religion thus making Malaysians seem only to be practicing one religion;
Islam. With that kind of view, one wouldn’t think that Islam had been the religion of the Malaysians
ever since time immortal. However this is not true. Before the Malaya’s believed in Islam, they too were
practitioners of Buddhism and Hinduism. The effects of Hinduism on the Malaysian population is not
visible but Buddhism was the country’s forerunner religion
during the days of the Golden Khersonese.
