Southeast Asian martial arts include
the arts from the Philippines, Indonesia, and
Vietnam. Filipino
martial arts include Arnis and Kali. Arnis is the
martial art that uses blocking, trapping,
disarming, and various lock and throwing
techniques. Once a master of Arnis, one may
fluently defend with almost any arbitrary object
(such as an umbrella or a comb).Kali, on the
other hand, uses the traditional sword (later
changed to sticks after the ban of such weapons).
Kali, practiced in front of unsuspecting
opponents in the form of moro-moro stage plays
that depicted mock combat with weapons.

Indonesian martial arts
include Silat and Vadha Kempo. Silat is
comparable to Kung Fu and practices aim at the
chest and stomach. Silat, however, is mainly used
for self-defense. Vadha Kempo concentrates on
circular motions, and on disengaging the attacker
through locks or choking. "Shareer", or
the lock on the attacker, means to become one
with the attacker until she is no longer a
threat. Chong
Nhu is a Vietnamese martial art that stresses the
following principles: For a full life, one must
overcome, overwork, and overwhelm. For a fuller
life, one must have a open mind, open heart, and
open arms. For the fullest life, one must have
oneness, togetherness, and forgiveness.
