California school standoff ends peacefully

(CNN) -- A student has been taken into custody Friday after holding people hostage at gunpoint for more than an hour at a California high school, authorities said.

No one was injured at Las Plumas High School in Oroville, California, in the standoff, which began about 9 a.m. PT (noon ET) and ended just before 11 a.m. (2 p.m. ET), according to the Butte County Sheriff's Department and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The sheriff's department said the male student fired one shot into the air, but no one was hit. The hostages were held in the band room.

A SWAT team was called in to the school. All of the school district's six schools were on lockdown during the incident, according to the district. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
