If you want some extra credit, you can usually rewrite your exam or paper, or write an additional paper. Just see me about it beforehand.
Why extra credit opportunities? My goal is to see that you learn the information and think through the philosophical issues covered in the course. Sometimes that doesn't happen the first time around, or in time for written assignments to be turned in. Maybe your grandmother died just before the exam, or you had four exams in the same week, or you have been struggling with personal problems.
So: prove to me that you have mastered the content of the course, or improved your knowledge over what is demonstrated in your previous work, and I will give you extra credit.
However: to be fair to those who managed to do their best the first time around, or who are unable to rewrite, I can only give you partial credit for such additional work. My general rule is that I will at most raise your grade for the course by a full grade. Usually, the effect is not that extreme, but do see me to discuss your own circumstances.
