Hiking Half Dome

Picture from Paul Carlin
Half Dome is one of the best known formations in Yosemite National Park.
Rock climbers scale the shear face. Hikers grip a waist-high steel cable
as they ascend the sloped surface. From Curry Village on the Yosemite Valley
floor to the top of Half Dome, the horizontal distance is about 10 miles
and the vertical distance is about 1 mile. The expeditious (free fall) route
back is not recommended.
Other Pictures of Half Dome
Half Dome is one of the most photographed formations in Yosemite. Ansel
Adams' black and white picture of the moon
rising over Half Dome may be the most familiar. Other interesting treatments
include pink and
blue toned images and a collage
of photographs.
Other Information about Yosemite National Park
The National Park Service supplies general
and somewhat specific information
about Yosemite. J. Rabold has compiled very
specific information including descriptions of hikes in Yosemite. The
Fresno Visitors Bureau has a visually
appealing web site on Yosemite.
