PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

 

Associate Professor (August 1998 – Present)

Director of Polymer Manufacturing (February 1999 – Present)

 

Responsible for education and curriculum of the polymer manufacturing, computer-aided design, and materials courses for undergraduate education.

Responsible for development of polymer lab by updating the plastic and composite manufacturing equipment with industrial donations and funds from research contracts. Industrial donations during 1998 and 2003 are valued at $400,000.

Responsible for creating research proposals and sponsored projects through industrial sponsors, governmental agencies, and industrial funding agencies. Total sponsored projects during 1998 and 2003 are valued at $60,000.

Responsible for serving on academic committees, including scholarship committee (Chair), Center for Manufacturing Excellence, curriculum committee, and faculty advisor for the CSU, Chico Society of Plastic Engineers and the CSU, Chico Society of Automotive Engineers student clubs.

 

May 1984 – August 1998 General Motors Corporation

Senior Project Engineer (1996 to 1998)

Managed a 6-person, software-development team that provided CAD software programs in the Unigraphics design system.

Senior Research Engineer (1993 to 1996)

Developed the materials and processes of thermoplastic and thermoset systems, including urethane Liquid Composite Molding (LCM), Structural Reaction Injection Molding (SRIM), Resin Transfer Molding (RTM), and compression molding of Glass Mat Thermoplastic (GMT) and Bulk Molding Compound (BMC) materials.

 

Sr.  Manufacturing Engineer (1988-1993) Managed a composites development team that developed polymer composite bumper beams for vehicle production programs. 

 

Manufacturing Engineer (1984-1988) Developed Polyurea Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) and thermoplastic materials for body panel applications.
