Class Description
Provide students a thorough study of thermoplastic and thermoset
composites industry by investigating materials, manufacturing, design,
and applications.

Class Objectives
At the end of this course, students will be able to
-
Understand the classification of polymer materials.
-
Identify common polymer materials by chemical structure and family.
-
Identify polymer materials as amorphous or crystalline, linear or branched,
and homopolymer or co-polymer.
-
Understand the effects of temperature, pressure, shear rate, solvents,
and environmental exposure on plastics.
-
Identify the processing window and mechanical property characteristics
of polymer materials.
-
Identify the influences of additives and reinforcements on mechanical properties
of plastic materials.
-
Understand the safety issues and procedures when using plastic and composite
materials.
