Despite what you may have read
elsewhere I hardly ever remodel train stations on my lunch break.
The truth is I am a student and aspiring computer geek, and I rarely
even visit train stations (or remodel anything).
Anyway, if you are still reading this then I will further entertain
you with a brief version of my life story (with a focus on education
since this is my university web site)...
I was born in Chico California
in 1980 at Enloe Hospital. I continued
to live in Chico until I was about 8 years old when I moved a whopping
10 miles away to Durham, which as of the 2000 census hosts 5,220
residents. The Durham schools are reported to be very good but with
the small population class selection was limited. I made do with
a bunch of Math classes, some Spanish classes, a couple computer
classes and Physics in addition to the regularly required courses.
I also participated in three sports (wrestling, football, and track)
and played saxophone in the High School band (which in some strange
Durham anomaly included over a third of the school).
Upon graduating High School I attended Butte
Community College, which is technically in Oroville but is actually
closer to Durham (supposedly it is equal-distance between Chico
and Oroville). Not knowing what subject I wanted to focus my studies
on I took a variety of classes, including more Math, a web-design
class, and some other random classes in addition to the General
Education requirements that junior colleges are ideal for. At this
point I was considering majoring in Math, Computer Science, or Engineering.
After two years I was ready to escape Butte College. I moved all
the way back to Chico and began taking courses at Chico State, majoring
in Computer Science.
In addition to classes in Computer Science and a couple more General
Education classes I also dabbled in classes from other departments.
I took some classes from the Business department...and disliked
them. I took some web design courses from the Communications Design
department...and liked them quite a bit! So, after a year or two
at CSUC I changed my major to Communications
Design (information
and communications systems option) and reduced my major in Computer
Science to a minor. It was also at this time that I chose the Minds,
Brains & Machines option for my upper
division theme (a requirement at CSUC).
So, as of this writing (June 2004) I am 3 units away from completing
my university education and on the brink of beginning my real-world
education. I will be taking Computer Architecture this coming semester,
studying for the CCNA
exam, and looking for a job to begin my career (if you know
of such a job check out my resume
and let me know).
Along the way I have worked a number of jobs. Outside of CSUC these
include soccer referee, wrestling coach, courtesy clerk at a grocery
store, salesman at a furniture store, and some random web design
gigs. Within CSUC I worked as support tech at User
Services, a server administrator for a foundation
research project, and a technology consultant/analyst at Network
Operations.
