DESCRIPTION:

  • Habitat type: The dance flies are found in streams and rivers, especially in detritous materials within the littoral zones of ponds and lakes. Also found in very wet soils. (Williams et al., 1992) Some species of adults are found to run about on vegetation to hunt for prey. (Oldroyd, 1965) The pupa is found on submerged stones.

DISTRIBUTION:

  • The flies of this family are widely distributed throughout the world. Mostly in the cooler climates or temperate zones of both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
