DESCRIPTION:

  • Tipulidae are found in exceptionally diverse, moist habitats
  • Flowing streams, damp detritrous, fast and slow-flowing streams and rivers
  • Springs, hygropetric habitats, ponds and lakes
  • Shallow water, fresh and brackish water marshes, wet moss, tree holes and other phytotelmata
  • Marine inter tidal zone
  • Saturated soil, temporary pools, flood plains

  • Larvae are found in all types of habitats lentic to lotic to semiaquatic
