The North State Academic Press is the book publishing arm of HCSV 260 Computer Applications in Health Education course. In this course, health education and gerontology students learn how to publish books in health education and gerontology. Students write the content for the books, and learn how to publish books from start to finish. Professors from various disciplines generously donate their time to collaborate on these projects to produce student-faculty publications. See Collaborating Faculty Biosketches.

PinoChico: The Chico State Freshman

BOOK SUMMARY: PinoChico: The Chico State Freshman is a story about the freshman experience in college. Pinny, as he is known by friends, is a human-sized marionette carved from the great Hooker Oak Tree in Chico, California. He comes to life, and is transformed temporarily by Old Wise Muzza to look like a real human boy on the outside, but under his clothes, he is still wood, except for very special parts. Pinny enrolls as a freshman at Chico State, and lives on campus in Whitney Hall. He pretends to be something he is not, and longs to be himself, to make friends, and to fit in on campus. Pinny and his trusted inner circle of friends must seek out the fairy that will transform him into a real human boy. He is in luck, for Chico is the Fairy Capital of the World.

There are 31 student authors and one professor publishing this book. A collaborative storytelling in health education process is used.
