Riparian Restoration Internships

CSU, Chico

SPRING 2000

The emerging science of restoration ecology is a complex combination of ecological theory and practical, site-specific actions. Opportunities abound for future employment. Landowners, teachers, agencies, and consulting firms are becoming involved with preserving, re-creating, enhancing, or restoring the diversity of habitats. Understanding our responsibility to the greater biotic community is needed for mitigation, nature study areas, or simply backyard enhancement.

Envisioning the possibilities of a site based upon local populations, symbiosis, hydrology, soils, socioeconomics, and aesthetics will be the focus of these units. Field work will primarily be along Big Chico Creek at the CSU, Chico campus although persons involved with other areas are encouraged to participate. Weekly discussions will involve both the ecology and politics of restoration.
