Sculpins were very abundant at the detox site before treatment, so much so that DFG personnel did not bother to measure them in 1984. Subsequent to the treatment their population slowly rose to approach pretreatment levels over a period of about seven years. As seen at Ponderosa Way, they had a great reproductive season following the flood event of January, 1997. That storm completely rearranged the gravel under which sculpins hide, removing fine materials and leaving a surface layer of loose, coarse gravel. The sculpins apparently loved it. The population in 1998 was less than 1997, but certainly well within normal variation.
