Downloading the Class Notes

 

  1. If you have a Mac you will find a pdf file in the printer box. Save the pdf file and print. If you have a PC you can do the same thing by using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  2. Study questions for CMSD 642. If you are taking the course on-line you will answer the study questions after you complete each unit and send them to me as an attachment, or you can send me the answers for the first seven units together. You will take the midterm exam after you have completed the first seven units. When you complete the remainder of the units you will take the final exam. You can e-mail me any time you have questions.
  3. If you are taking the course on-campus you will use the study questions to prepare for class discussions.

Learning Goals

 

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the following in terms of prevention, assessment and remediation:

• the ability to understand and explain dysphagia

the ability to understand and explain dysarthria and apraxia.

the ability to understand and explain the neuroanatomy and neuropathologies associated with the above

the ability to rehabilitate (when prognosis warrants) swallowing and speech dysfunction in patients who have incurred cerebral insults


Classroom Requirements

Three examinations

A project involving one of the learning goals above, including simulations.

Reading and writing assignments
