Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course students will be able to:

•explain functional neuroanatomy and physiology

•explain different approaches to remediation of swallowing and language

•do simulations of therapy for speech, swallowing, language, and cognition

•describe the speech and language pathologist's role in an acute care hospital

•be prepared for the Praxis exam

 


Course Requirements

Each of you will be responsible for therapy simulations for dysphagia, apraxia, dysarthria. aphasia, cognition, and right hemisphere syndrome. Your simulations will be in a group of two or three students.

The final experience is Tuesday 10:00-11:50 AM

Add drop policy: Students may add or drop courses without restriction or penalty and without instructor approval during the first two weeks of the semester using the Portal or when necessary by submitting a Change of Program (COP).

Students with disabilities must meet with me before the end of of the second week of classes so that accommodations can be made.
