This bibliography is a comprehensive list of soil maps for the Pacific Northwest appearing in the Soil Survey Series of 1899 through 1962. Though the Soil Survey Series started in 1899, the first Pacific Northwest maps were not issued until the 1901 series, at which time the Yakima and Sunnyside sheets accompanied the Yakima area report. There were also no Pacific Northwest maps issued in the final three series, 1960-1962.
Map entries are arranged according to series chronology, i.e. the 1900 series maps first and the 1959 series maps last, and are numbered 1 to 102. Each entry includes the soil map title, names of those responsible for the map content (i.e. those who did the actual field work), series date, scale rounded to the nearest 1,000, date of aerial photographic base map if applicable, soil report title, issue date, the SuDoc number for the separate soil survey and/or field operations report, and in parentheses the counties covered.
Two indexes are included, author and county name, correlated to the bibliography by map entry numbers. The county index is especially useful for finding maps for those areas not consistently contiguous with county boundaries or those without a county name in their title. If a sheet covers 20 or more square miles of any county, whether showing soil or only base map information, then an entry is made in the county index.
