Your COM 100 accounts have been created for FirstClass.
When you log on to FirstClass, you will be asked to provide a user ID (also known as a login name) in the first box, and your password in the second box.
Your user ID is simply your first initial followed by your last name, all lowercase. If you have a very common last name like smith, your user ID might be your first initial, then your middle initial, then your last name. There have been rare occurrences of students with the same last name, same first initial, and same middle initial! If you are having problems with your login name, please email Darlene to get your correct login name.
The initial password
for everyone is com100 (no spaces between com and 100). Use this password to
log on and then change it to one that you choose. To change your
password, under the "Service" menu select "Change Password".
For example:
If you name is John Smith, you would log on to FirstClass with the
user ID of jsmith and the password of COM100. After logging on you
should change your password to one that only you will know. Questions
will be answered in class or by emailing Darlene
Hinds.
There are workshops available through student computing services, located in the computer lab on the first floor of the library. You can call them at 898-HELP, also. In addition, once you are in the FirstClass program, there is a folder on your Desktop labeled "HELP ?" This folder contains brief tutorials on the various types of actions that you will need to know to complete your assignments for COM 100.
According to Tech Support at SoftArc, the makers of FirstClass, you must be using the latest version of America Online, Ver. 3.0 or above, to access FirstClass. Some students in class have tried this and have been successful at connecting.
