Course Objectives: The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the Internet and to teach the tools necessary to access the immense information available on-line. Students will get hands-on experience using e-mail, transferring files, and searching the Internet for data and text which are useful to the college student in general and the social science student in particular. Students can use the knowledge obtained in this class to keep up with future developments in the rapidly evolving Internet and to pursue course related research throughout the University.

Assignments: You will be given weekly internet assignments that emphasize the use of resources valuable for economics and other social sciences. Bring a 3.5" high density IBM type disk to class so that you can save any assignments that you start in class. Each week's assignment is due on or before 5 p. m. Friday. Late assignments will be penalized. No assignments will be accepted after class meets the following week.
Computer Access: If you do not have a computer, you can use the computers in Butte 207, Butte 209 and Butte 211 or other computer labs located throughout the campus to complete your assignments.
Important Investment: If you do not have access to a non-obselete computer in your home, you should consider purchasing one. (Even if you don't take this class, a home computer will greatly increase your opportunities to acquire valuable labor market skills.) See the Financial Aid Office about a loan if you do not have the means to buy a computer.
Course Grade: You may take this class for credit-no credit if you fill out the proper forms. Otherwise, you will receive a letter grade. I will ask each of you to select a 4 digit code, and I will post your grades with the code on a web page immediately after grading each assignment.
