Fall 1998, Chico State University

I borrowed this assignment from a professor at the Univeristy of Central
Florida, Dr. Rajshree Agarwal. You can check out the original version:

Here's your assignment which Dr. Agarwal developed and wrote:

1. Getting International Information

Imagine that you are a company executive considering the possibility of
opening a plant or selling a product in another country. As part of the
initial research, you would like to collect some basic data for the
country and compare it to the United States. You find out that the
Government releases information on several countries in the CIA World Fact
Book, and the 1995 edition is available on the Internet. Using this
resource, compile the following information for both the country of your
choice and the United States, and write a brief report on your findings.
(Please note that two people researching the same country will be frowned
upon.) Find the information on

   1.Land area and climate
   2.Population
   3.Population growth rate
   4.Literacy rate
   5.Per capita National Product

2. Getting Information on a Corporation

You have been called on an interview by a corporation (publicly traded
domestic company), and you would like to research and find some
information about it to be better informed. EDGAR is a source maintained
by the SEC that has information on about three fourths of such companies
(Luckily, the company you pick has filed a 10-K form with the SEC) Access
the latest 10-K filing for the corporation (of your choice) and obtain the
following information. (Once again, two people, particularly on the same
team, should not have information on the same company.)

   1.Headquarters (mailing address)
   2.Main Products/Services sold
3.Top three executive officers and their position in the company
4.Net Revenues in the latest year for which information is provided
   5.Earnings per share.
