How Do I Get a Computer Loan?

Fall 1998, Chico State University

The beginning of the process is easy. A student submits a letter to
Financial Aid explaining why he or she needs a computer. We automatically
fund one for up to $ 2,500. Above that it requires a faculty member's
letter to show why they need a larger than average model. Typically we
fund these through a Stafford Direct Loan or through increased work study
eligibility. But if a student already has the maximum loan permitted by
federal law or is already working too many hours, this is of little help.
It works for most students but not for all. Under federal law we have to
consider each such action an independent professional judgement.
