Set Your Netscape Preferences to Read E-mail on Rocko

Fall 1998, Chico State University



Here's what you need to do to use Netscape for e-mail in Butte 211.

1.  Open Netscape & click on "Edit" to get the pull-down menu & choose 
    "Preferences" which will open a window.
2.  If there is a "+" to the left of "Mail & News" double click on "Mail & 
    News" and you will see several choices, e.g. Identity, Messages. 
3.  In the window under "Mail & News" choose "Identity" & fill in:
    (1) your name, 
    (2) your e-mail address on Rocko (e.g., smith@rocko.lab.csuchico.edu 
        if smith is your login name), and
    (3) your reply to address (the same as your e-mail address).  
4.  Choose "Mail Server" & type the following for your incoming & outgoing 
    mail server: rocko.lab.csuchico.edu
5.  Type your login name in the window where your pop3 user name goes.
6.  BE SURE that you select Leave Mail On Server. 
7.  Click "ok."
8.  Put your cursor over the little mailbox icon on the bottom right of 
    your screen and double click to get your messages from Rocko.
9.  Click on "New Msg" at the top & you will get window where you can 
    type in the e-dress, the subject, and the message.
10. If you are using a lab computer, be sure that 
    you clean all your mail off the computer before you leave:
    (1) Highlight all the messages in your inbox and hit the "delete" key.
    (2) Click on file to get a pull-down menu and select "empty trash 
        folder."
