EMPLOYMENT

1994 - Present: Professor, Instructional Technology Program, Department of Communication Design, California State University, Chico.

Currently teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to instructional design, performance analysis, E-learning design, multimedia development and research methods. Member of Academic Senate. Consulting developer of instructional products for a broad range of industries, including retail, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, waste management, and medical instrument manufacturing. Scholarly, development, and speaking interests are in the areas of designing web-based instruction and instructional project management. Author of a systematic instructional development model for converting traditional classroom-based instruction into online formats. Known as Event-Oriented Design, this model is serving as the basis for a university-wide effort to develop distributed courses that include a wide range of technologies.

Present public seminars and workshops on topics related to instructional design, web-based training, and criterion-referenced testing and certification. Provide instructional design and development services for contracts on an ongoing basis.

4/93 - 8/94, CONSULTING PROJECT MANAGER, CARA CORPORATION, Oak Brook, Illinois. Recent projects include mixed-media self-instructional and instructor-led training for diabetes education, pharmaceutical sales and hazardous materials handling. Projects have incorporated video and slide-tape components. Tasks include ongoing contact with end clients, CARA development team members, and external video and graphics production personnel.

1/92 - 4/93, CONSULTING PERFORMANCE TECHNOLOGIST, Indianapolis, Indiana. Contractual duties included needs analysis and all aspects of instructional design of OSHA-mandated laboratory safety training for a corporate client. Emphasis on content analysis, production of design documents and paper-based CBT prototypes, programming of computer-based training lessons, and design of support materials. All tasks included ongoing contact with end client.

5/90 - 5/92, PROJECT DIRECTOR, TEACHING WITH GROUPS! INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA PROGRAM. Center for Adolescent Studies, Indiana University. Program is nationally distributed by the Agency for Instructional Technology (AIT). Duties included participating in as well as overseeing all aspects of needs analysis, production, and evaluation. Specific tasks included: Computer interface design, computer programming, video field shooting, off-line and on-line editing, distribution and licensing concerns, and supplementary materials production.

11/88 - 6/89, TRAINING SPECIALIST, INTEL CORPORATION. Designed and presented seminar-based new-hire orientation and cleanroom procedures training programs for semiconductor research and development facility. Other tasks included administration of external training programs.

6/88 - 10/89, WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR, SONY CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Co-taught one week workshop entitled "Interactive Video 1: Producing Videodisks." Primary tasks included presenting the Genesis interactive video authoring language and assisting students in designing and authoring their own level three interactive video workshop projects.

2/85 - 2/86, TRAINING SPECIALIST, LONGS DRUG STORES. Primary tasks included designing and presenting instructional materials for on-going regional management seminars. Subjects taught included Active Listening, Positive Confrontation, and Customer Service.
