BIO

Dr. Tom Welsh has been creatively engaged in instructional design and E-Learning development for over two decades. His experience includes employment as a corporate training specialist in two companies, as well as an ongoing career as an independent consultant and a Professor in the Instructional Design and Technology program at CSU, Chico. During the course of his career, Dr. Welsh has developed instructional products across many industries, including hospitality, pharmaceutical, finance, retail, semiconductor, telecommunications, waste management, and medical instruments manufacturing. His training solutions span a broad range of content areas and incorporate both traditional and emerging media. Following is a brief overview of some of his many project experiences:

  • Lead instructional designer, programmer, and webmaster of a learning management platform for employee training. Technologies incorporated into solution include; php, flash, mySQL, vBulletin, and amember enrollment software.
  • Developer of a web-based job aid index for an enterprise-wide project management application. The web-based tool allows quick search and retrieval of text and graphic information keyed to end-user tasks.
  • Designer of the Aprinda, LLC web site. Consulted on all aspects of design and maintenance.
  • Designer of the Darryl Sink, and Associates, Inc. web site. Consulted on visual design, information architecture, and process functionality such as allowing workshop registration, purchasing products, and facilitating quick access to information.
  • Primary designer and regular presenter of the Darryl Sink and Associate, Inc. E-Learning Design Workshop.
  • Developer of a web-based briefing on a new IT service rollout. Designed for delivery to a worldwide audience over several sessions and with several presenters, the briefing product incorporates a text outline, screen captures, and a presenter script. The delivery format also allows presenters to guide distance learners through the Internet using a virtual classroom technology.

Dr. Welsh's scholarly and development interests are in the areas of web-based instruction, blended instructional systems, and database-driving content for use in training and performance support. He has publications in the areas of web-based course development, computer interface design, and innovative uses of technology for education and training. He presents regularly at national conferences on topics related to instructional design and development. He teaches courses on Multimedia Development (Flash MX), Instructional Design for Web-Based Instruction (Dreamweaver), Instructional Design Research and Theory, and ID Consulting with Businesses and Non-Profits.
