   Industry Overviews
Industry overviews combine narrative and statistics about demographic trends, market size, competition, technological developments, legal and regulatory challenges, macro-economic environment, and sometimes cost and pricing data. 

  1. ABI/Inform ReSEARCH Station /Articles & Databases
    For articles: "candy and industrywide conditions" or "pet food and trends". For market research reports: Use Snapshots North America (access from the 'multiple databases' option.)
  2. Business Source Premier ReSEARCH Station /Articles & Databases
    For articles: "candy and sales " or "pet food and trends". For market research: Select "Industry Profiles" and "Market Research Reports".
  3. Factiva ReSEARCH Station/ Articles & Databases
    Combine a keyword with the term "industry overview". Example: travel and industry overview.

  5. Industry Surveys. Available through NetAdvantage from ReSEARCH Station/ Articles & Databases

    Organized by product, cross-tabulates expenditures by various demographic measures.

Economic, regulatory & legislation climate

The Best place to find information on the regulatory climate is from trade associations and/or in trade journal articles. In addition, try these sources:

    Use "State of the Nation" to view current economic data, Survey of Current Business, the Beige Book (for regional economic trends)

    Useful keywords: industrywide conditions, trends, forecasts, consumer behavior, market strategy, online sales, retailing, market share, innovations, problems, etc.
  2. Business Source Premier or ReSEARCH Station /Articles & Databases
    Search like ABI/Inform.
  3. TableBase   or ReSEARCH Station /Articles & Databases
    Find statistical charts and tables with links to full-text articles from trade journals and, market research reports.
  4. Factiva or ReSEARCH Station /Articles & Databases
    -- Search with keywords: "restaurants and industry overview" or "bottled water and statistical data".
    -- Another option: Subject > Editor's Choice- Industry Trends/Analysis ~~ select an industry, enter a keyword (e.g. "trends") and search
    -- Another option: Source > Publications by Industry > Consumer Products (or whatever...). When you key in a search term (e.g. "trends" ), the database will search within this specialized folder of trade journals.
  5. NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) codes www.census.gov/epcd/www/naics.html . Also in print on BST 2B #10.
  6. Library Catalog ReSEARCH Station / Books
    -- Search for books by keyword, subject, author or title.
