Ashley Gebb

Ashley Gebb serves as the Interim Chief of Staff to President Steve Perez. In this role, she is a trusted advisor and consultant for the President and a member of the President’s Cabinet, working to advance presidential initiatives. Working in various roles at Chico State since 2015, Ashley also serves as the executive director of University Communications, leading our strategic communications initiatives, marketing, and branding.

As chief of staff, Ashley continues to lead strategic campus initiatives. Her contributions have already influenced the University’s reaccreditation with the Western Senior College University Commission, the 2019–24 Strategic Plan, the Campus Facilities Master Plan, the 2024 Strategic Planning Steering Committee, and the Implementation Team for Title IX. She continues to serve on the Employee Engagement Committee, Sustainability Committee, and Book in Common Committee, among many others.

Communication is both Ashley’s expertise and passion. She oversees our award-winning public relations strategy, directs centralized communications, marketing, publications, creative services, and media relations. She also advises on communication for the University's philanthropic outreach, plays a key role in government relations and advocacy, and led the University's first comprehensive organizational rebranding and messaging effort.

Crisis communication and crisis management are among her many responsibilities. During her tenure, Ashley has played a pivotal role in directing multi-channel crisis communications and guiding executive leadership in incidents ranging from the Oroville Dam spillway incident to the Camp Fire to reputational issues. In 2023, she completed her master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies at Chico State, with emphasis on communications and public administration. Her graduate project was a guide for trauma-informed crisis communication for higher education.

She has earned more than a dozen awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, including International Circle of Excellence Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards for marketing, writing, and crisis management. Prior to her work in higher education, Ashley was an award-winning journalist, working for daily newspapers in Northern California after earning her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Chico State. She has called Chico her home for more than two decades and prioritizes relationships with the campus and the community.
