November 6, 2024 – Post-Election Support Resources and Activities
Dear Campus Community,
Yesterday was what many have called one of the most consequential presidential elections in our history. The outcome has produced a range of emotions in our campus community—from excitement to despair. Many individuals and groups, including those who identify with historically marginalized communities, may be bearing the weight of these emotions most acutely. Our responsibility is to continue to be a campus and community that supports everyone, to ensure all students and employees feel safe and welcome here, and to foster an environment where our community can thrive. We will continue with this as our guide, one that I am very proud to be a part of.
As part of our commitment to our community's mental health and well-being, we are creating spaces to practice empathy and compassion toward one another. For students who are feeling anxiety or angst as a result of the election, several activities and drop-in emotional support services are available:

You also may consider practicing self-care in other ways, such as taking a break from the news and social media, taking deep breaths and staying hydrated, connecting with supportive friends and allies, spending time doing an activity you enjoy, and moving your body to help release your energy.
I've often said how special the Chico State community is and how we actively work to support each other in our successes and our challenges. In times like this, I have every confidence we will continue to be the model. We encourage you to have meaningful conversations around issues and differences that impact us all, and to do so in ways where every member feels safe, valued, and a welcome part of our community. No matter what you are feeling in response to this election, you belong at Chico State. Please take care of yourself and one another this week and in the weeks to come.
Thank you for all you do,
Steve Perez
