September 28, 2024 - Power Restored—Classes & Campus Operations Resume Monday
Dear Campus Community,
I’m happy to announce that Facilities Management and Services, with help from a contractor, was able to fix the issue that caused the campuswide power outage. The University will be open Monday, September 30, and all scheduled classes and events are expected to take place as normal in their regular locations. Regular weekend card access should be restored to all buildings, and University Police is available for those who encounter issues.
That said, the impacts of such a prolonged outage on our campus were significant, and it’s taking time to ensure all building operations and technology are running properly. Staff are working throughout the weekend, and their evaluations are ongoing. I ask for your patience as we adjust to buildings being back online and navigate any issues that may have been created by the outage. If you experience something not operating normally on Monday, please report it to FMS at
I’m grateful for your patience last week and want to thank FMS, Environmental Health and Safety, and the Division of Information Technology for getting us up and running. I also commend the staff and faculty who worked to ensure our most critical needs were met amid the disruption. From a pop-up pantry via Basic Needs to staffing the WellCat Health Center to conducting fire checks of buildings through the night, we united once again to take care of our students and our campus during the unexpected. My pride in being a Wildcat only continues to grow. Have a great week!
Thank you,
Steve Perez
