July 24, 2025 - Arrests Made After Hate Crime Incident on Campus

Dear Campus Community,

I want to share that University Police, in collaboration with the Chico Police Department, has arrested three juveniles in connection with a deeply troubling battery incident on campus near the Bidwell Bowl on July 15. The victim, a current Chico State student, was assaulted and subjected to racial slurs. While his physical injuries were thankfully not significant, this act of violence and hate is unacceptable and deeply disturbing. The student’s well-being is our top priority, and they have been provided supportive services from the University.

The juveniles are not affiliated with Chico State.

We want to be clear: diversity is a strength on our campus and hate has absolutely no place at our University. We unequivocally condemn acts of violence and discrimination in all forms and remain firmly committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members of our community.

All acts of hate and discrimination should be reported to University Police or the Title IX office so those responsible can be held accountable and victims can be connected with appropriate services.

If you need support as a result of this disturbing incident, please reach out to the campus services that are here to support you, including the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and the Employee Assistance Program. Thank you for working together to make Chico State a welcoming place and for creating a community that stands firmly against despicable acts like these.
