September 25, 2025 - University Advancement Interim Leadership Update
Dear colleagues,
I want to take a moment to express my deep appreciation to Frank Whitlatch for his outstanding service as interim vice president for University Advancement over the past six months. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding the division through a period of transition, and his breadth of experience—in fundraising, branding, marketing, strategic communications, alumni engagement, media relations, and so much more—provided the division with steady support and clear direction.
Frank’s return from a well-earned retirement to serve his alma mater in this important role is a testament to his commitment to Chico State. His collaborative spirit, thoughtful ideas, and approachable leadership style have been noted and appreciated across campus. I’ve heard from many who have valued both his strategic insights and the genuine care he showed for our campus community and our mission. Please join me in thanking Frank and wishing him all the best as he embarks on his next chapter.
As I shared earlier this month, Kristine Mazzei will officially begin as our next vice president for University Advancement on October 27. I’m incredibly excited for her return to Chico State and confident in the leadership, creativity, and vision she will bring to this role.
In the meantime, I’m grateful to Jessica Harrington, executive director of development, who has agreed to serve as administrator in charge for University Advancement until Kristine’s arrival. Jessica’s strong relationships across campus, deep knowledge of the division, fundraising expertise, and steady leadership will ensure continuity and support during this brief period. Please reach out to her if you need assistance in the coming weeks.
Thank you all for your continued dedication to Chico State and the important work of University Advancement.
Steve
