    The Lactation Support Program

    The Lactation Support Program encompasses the accommodations available to expecting and new parents, supporting their transition back into the workplace or classes after the birth of their child. Chico State understands the challenges of leaving your newborn and is committed to easing the transition through accommodations for employee break times and use of campus lactation spaces.

    The Chico State Basic Needs Project recognizes access to affordable, reliable, and high-quality childcare to support families and working parents as a basic need and has numerous services for student parents listed on its webpage.

    Childcare at ASCDL

    The Associated Students Child Development Laboratory (ASCDL) is a licensed, on-campus facility that provides early learning and care to children ages 2 months to 5 years. Parenting Chico State students are given first priority. ASCDL is a teaching and learning laboratory that provides internships and work experience to child development majors.

Lactation Support Program

The Lactation Support Program encompasses the accommodations available to expecting and new parents, supporting their transition back into the workplace or classes after the birth of their child. Lactating parents have a right to request a reasonable lactation accommodation, including a private space reasonably close to their working or learning environment.

Campus Lactation Spaces

Chico State has several lactation spaces which include access to a chair, table, a nearby sink and electrical outlets.

Stop by the front circulation counter on the 1st floor to check out the key before heading upstairs. Chico State Map link.

Room Details

  • Two private rooms with locking doors
  • Each room features a comfortable chair, table, mirror, outlets, and a soothing sound machine
  • The east side room also features a sink and may be more comfortable for breastfeeding
  • Users are encouraged to slide the sign from “Vacant” to “Occupied” when using the rooms

Hours

Drop-in during “All Floors Open” hours. For library hours, please check the Library Hours schedule.

Access

  • Walk-Ins Welcome
  • Any Chico State student, faculty, or staff member may check-out a key for two hours at Meriam Library’s Circulation counter on the first floor
  • The key provides access to either room

Note/Comments

The rooms are located on the third floor of the library, adjacent to the women’s restrooms on the east and west sides.

Room Details

  • Users are encouraged to slide the sign on the door to In Use from Available when using the lounge

Drop-in during normal business hours Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM with the exception of holidays and/or school breaks. Please check The Well’s webpage for the most up-to-date schedule/hours.

  • Any Chico State student, faculty, or staff member may use the Lactation Lounge.

*The Lactation Lounge is available for use by faculty, staff and students; the remainder of The Well’s space is designated for student use only*

If a refrigerator is not available in or near the requested lactation space, you can request alternative cooling options. All lactation accommodation requests, questions or concerns should be submitted or referred to the Title IX office at 530-898-4949 or titleix@csuchico.edu.

If no permanent lactation space exists in a reasonably close location, you can request a temporary lactation space. The University will make every effort to provide reasonable accommodations based on available space and resources and will provide a response to your request, including a written notice if a requested accommodation can’t be provided.
