Earn Your Chico State Degree In No More Than 60 Additional Units
The California State University system and the California Community College system collaborated on the creation of the Associate of Arts for Transfer (AA-T) and the Associate of Science for Transfer (AS-T) degree programs, made possible by the passage of Senate Bill 1440.
If you completed one of these Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) at your Community College you received priority in the admission process.
But, did you know that if you were admitted to a program deemed similar to your ADT, you will only need to complete 60 additional units (or less) to earn a bachelor's degree? To participate, simply take the following steps:
In addition to the guarantee to graduate in no more than 60 units, ADT transfer students have the opportunity to graduate in two years. Finish in Four and Through in Two Program is for ADT students who wish to complete their bachelor's degree within two years. Students pledging to graduate in two years will receive benefits including priority registration and tailored advising.
About the Guarantee
As an Associate Degree for Transfer student you were given certain admissions priorities. Now that you are enrolled at Chico State, the benefits of the program continue.
Completion of the Associate Degree for Transfer fulfills lower division GE at Chico State. In your Degree Progress Report (DPR) you will see a notation confirming completion of lower division General Education.
Important Note:
If not completed as part of your Transfer Associate Degree, you may need to complete:
While completion of an Associate for Transfer degree does meet all lower-division general education requirements, you will still be held to completion of the Upper Division General Education Pathway.
You must complete 3 courses from the same Interdisciplinary Pathway:
Important Note: Some majors have course modifications in Upper Division GE, be sure to check your catalog and speak with your major advisor.
If your AA-T or AS-T program from your community college has been evaluated as similar to your major here at Chico you will not be held to more than 60 units to graduate with your bachelor's degree.
Proper advising is critical to ensure that you do not enroll into any unnecessary courses.
Meet with your major advisor before enrolling in courses for the upcoming semester.
Carefully review your Degree Progress Report (DPR). Deviation from required coursework may void your 60-unit guarantee.
Important Note for Communication Studies and Journalism Students
If your Associate Degree for Transfer was in Communication Studies or Journalism, and you plan to continue in these programs at Chico State you are required to complete a formal minor in a department outside the School of Communication.
If you select a minor that will require you to exceed the 60 units, you will simply void the 60 unit guarantee. This does not jeopardize your enrollment at Chico State in any way.
If you are enrolled in a program that has not been evaluated as similar to your degree program, you will still have the notation in your Degree Progress Report showing your lower division General Education Foundation and Breadth Requirement has been met.
You'll also have a notation that states: "You have declared a major that is not similar to your Transfer AA/AS degree. This deviation voids the 60-units to graduate guarantee. Please contact Academic Advising with any questions regarding your remaining graduation requirements."
If you have decided not to pursue the 60-unit to graduate guarantee by selecting a second major, or high unit minor, or elective courses not included in your Degree Progress Report you will still have the notation stating that your General Education Foundation and Breadth requirement is complete.
You'll also have a notation that states: "Due to your selected major, minor or elective courses, you have deviated from the required courses for your AA-T/AS-T similar program. This deviation voids the 60-units to graduate guarantee. Please contact Academic Advising with any questions regarding your remaining graduation requirements."
