    Beef Unit

    The Beef Unit offers students practical experience managing cattle, genetics, and pasture while supporting curriculum and industry collaboration through CSU Chico's hands-on beef enterprise.

    Students cultivate crops and orchards for feed, seed, and sale while learning modern practices like yield mapping, pest management, and experimental trials.

    Five greenhouses and a propagation facility support coursework, restoration efforts, and research in plant science, giving students controlled environments for growing and experimentation.

    Jay Gilbert Farm Store

    Shop student-produced meats, organic vegetables, and seasonal goods grown at the University Farm—supporting hands-on education and sustainable agriculture at Chico State.

    Meats Lab

    Operating under USDA inspection, the Meats Lab teaches students meat science and processing skills while producing quality retail meats sold locally and to restaurants.

    Organic Dairy Unit

    The student-run dairy unit uses intensive rotational grazing and organic practices, training students in calving, feeding, certification, and nutrient management.

    This CSA-supported unit grows over 50 vegetable varieties, teaches organic farming methods, and provides produce to students, faculty, and the local community.

  • Sheep unit at the University Farm

    Sheep Unit

    Students manage flocks for youth projects and local meat sales, gaining experience in production, health, genetics, and marketing while supporting hands-on sheep education.

    Home to 35 registered sows, the Swine Unit supports student learning in herd management, research, and youth outreach through annual sales and educational events.
