Anthropology MA Application Instructions

    Fall semester: January 10
    Spring semester: No spring admission

Application Requirements

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) of undergraduate coursework
  • No GRE scores required
  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or:
    • Good academic standing if the degree is pending at the time of admission
    • Graduates of non-accredited institutions may apply under special circumstances if approved by the Office of Graduate Studies

Application Process

All application materials must be submitted through Cal State Apply application.

Steps to Apply

  1. Create a Cal State Apply account.
  2. Select the Anthropology program.
  3. Complete all four quadrants of the application:
    • Personal information
    • Academic history (include transcripts from all postsecondary institutions)
    • Supporting information (minimum two letters of recommendation)
    • Program-specific materials (see below)
  4. Submit a Statement of Purpose (1–2 pages) that includes:
    • A brief autobiographical sketch
    • Your goals and subfield interests in anthropology
    • Why and how Chico State can help you achieve these goals
    • Any other information that distinguishes you as an applicant
  5. Upload additional materials:
    • Updated Curriculum Vitae or résumé
    • Writing sample (e.g., term paper, publication)
  6. Prepare required details for submission:
    • Social Security Number (if applicable)
    • Citizenship status (U.S. citizens and noncitizens may apply)
    • Credit card or PayPal account for application fees
    • Annual income

Note: Applications are not reviewed until mid-January.

Admission Notification

Applicants will be notified of their admission status by late spring.
