Clinic for Communication Disorders

The Clinic for Communication Disorders (CCD) offers comprehensive speech and language evaluation and therapy services to individuals across the North State. Each semester, the clinic provides over 1,000 hours of evidence-based care to clients of all ages with communication disorders or differences.

As the on-campus training site for graduate students in Communication Sciences and Disorders, the clinic plays an essential role in preparing future speech-language pathologists. Under the supervision of experienced speech-language pathologists, graduate student clinicians deliver high-quality services while gaining hands-on professional experience.

• Voice production and modification
• Fluency and stuttering management

Diagnostic Evaluations:

Each client begins with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, which helps us confirm eligibility for our program and tailor recommendations to meet individual needs. Evaluations are offered in two-hour sessions during the fall (September–December) and spring (February–May) semesters. Following the evaluation, every client receives a detailed report summarizing findings and recommendations.

Therapy Services:

Therapy is provided on a semester-long schedule, with the fall semester running from September to December and the spring semester from February to May. Clients attend two 50- to 60-minute sessions per week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday), providing consistent, focused support to help them achieve their communication goals.

The CCD welcomes donations, which directly support student training and the continuation of these vital services. Every contribution makes a meaningful difference.

Contribute to Our Future

The CCD is seeking to establish a permanent endowment to sustain its services for generations to come. While annual donations keep our clinic running from year to year, an endowment provides perpetual funding to ensure clients across the North State continue to receive high-quality, no-cost services while graduate students gain essential clinical training.

If you are considering making a substantial gift or would like to discuss opportunities for creating a lasting legacy through an endowment, please contact University Advancement at (530) 898-4488 or email giftservices@csuchico.edu

Graduate student clinicians provide all of our services under the direct supervision of licensed and certified speech-language pathologists.

The diagnostic evaluation is a one-time appointment typically lasting up to 2 hours. If intervention is recommended, you will be temporarily placed on our waitlist. Once enrolled in the intervention, services are provided on a semesterly basis: fall (September–December) and spring (February–May). Clients attend two sessions per week (50-60 minutes each) on either a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule. Daytime appointments are typically filled by adults and young children. Afternoon appointments are typically reserved for school-aged children. Regular attendance is required to ensure adequate training for our student clinicians.

The CCD is located just off the Esplanade in the Aymer J Hamilton building on the Chico State campus. The CCD shares a parking lot with the Gateway Science Museum. Clients must park in stalls designated for the Communication Sciences and Disorders Clinic.
