Nutrition and Food Science Department

The mission of the Department of Nutrition and Food Science (NFSC) is to provide students with a broad educational background in the science of food and nutrition and foodservice management.

Our ACEND-accredited curriculum is firmly based in chemistry, physiology, nutrition, dietetics, food science, food and nutrition communication, and nutrition and food-service management. We will prepare you for all the nutrition field has to offer!

    Our food and nutrition program digs into food’s role in sustaining humanity. Learn from dedicated faculty with extensive experience as nutritionists, dieticians, food supervisors, and more, and find your way to a successful career in an industry that will always be essential.

    Food Science Minor

    Explore your passion for food and science with a minor that blends aspects of chemistry, nutrition, engineering, and biology. You’ll discover the science behind the chemical and biological makeup of food, learn about food safety, and delve into product development and sensory evaluation.

    Foodservice Administration Minor

    Learn how nutrients are used in the body and how ingredients affect food quality, as well as develop skills in all aspects of the industry, from the ins and outs of running a successful operation to food preparation, taste-testing, and budgeting.

    Nutrition for Human Performance Minor

    Examine the relationship between nutrition, physical performance, and overall health related to sports. Topics encompass improving dietary habits and nutritional needs to ensure lifelong health, identifying dietary supplements and functional foods, including misconceptions, and applying strategies that motivate clients to follow nutrition guidelines. This minor complements the kinesiology major.
