Pre-Nursing is a designation indicating interest in the nursing major and acceptance to the University does not mean acceptance into the nursing program. The School of Nursing assesses students using a points-based system, where the top 40 students with the most points are offered seats.

To be eligible to apply for the Basic BSN program, students must first meet the minimum admission criteria, as listed in the Admission Criteria, Points Distribution and Instructions  document. Applicants accepting admission must pass a background check and drug screen (including cannabis) consistent with California Board of Registered Nursing guidelines. Testing positive for cannabis will result in the loss of your admission. You will need to re-apply.

Apply to the BSN Program

To apply for the Basic BSN Program, two separate applications are required:

  • Apply to CSU, Chico through Cal State Apply. Apply as Pre-Nursing.
  • Apply to the School of Nursing basic BSN program through the NursingCAS

While we are happy to answer specific questions, we will not review applications for completeness or errors before submission.

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA or in the last 60 units
  • 3.5 cumulative GPA in the completed prerequisite courses
  • Official transcripts, and AP scores if applicable, to the CSU, Chico
    Office of Admissions
    and NursingCAS.

Current Chico State students do not need to send transcripts to Chico State unless specifically requested to do so.

All materials must be received by NursingCAS by 8:59 PST on the deadline with the exception of the CASPER test which goes directly from Acuity Insights to the School of Nursing. The CASPER test must also be distributed by the deadline. We cannot accept any late documents regardless of the reason.
