Public Health Nursing Certificate

Advance your nursing career by gaining eligibility for California's public health certification through focused community health theory and fieldwork.

The Public Health Nursing Certificate is designed for students who hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a program that was not approved for Public Health Nursing. 

PHN Certification

You must first have a California registered nurse license before obtaining your PHN certification. You must be in possession of a valid California Public Health Nurse Certificate issued by the Board of Registered Nursing to be considered a Public Health Nurse. To become certified, complete the BRN BREEZE online Application.

Graduates who completed their education some time ago, may still be requested to complete these by the BRN. If the BRN specifically requests the PHN Certification form, please fill it out and email it to prenursadvisor@csuchico.edu. Chico State transcripts can be requested from Student Records and Registration.

Pinning Ceremony

Pinning Ceremony takes place the Friday of finals week from 1-3 pm in the BMU Auditorium. If you wish to participate in the Pinning Ceremony, email Darcy Hostetter-Lewis at dhostetter-lewis@csuchico.edu at least two months prior to the ceremony. 

The Commencement Ceremony is separate from the Pinning Ceremony and is for all Chico State graduates. You need to register to participate in it, visit Commencement for more information on the Commencement Ceremony.
