Learn to teach engaging and inclusive recreational activities and sports for students of all ages and abilities with our minor in adapted physical activity. You’ll master the requirements for the P.E. teaching certification and can also pursue an adapted physical education credential, which you can complete at Chico State.

Our minor provides an unparalleled hands-on learning experience in spaces like our Autism Clinic, through student-led community service projects, and in the classroom. This gives our students a distinct competitive advantage in the workforce or graduate programs.

From classroom learning about human anatomy and biomechanics to programming sports for children with disabilities, your coursework and over 100 hours of service learning will cover the foundation of adapted physical activity.

    According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 6 of us lives with a disability. People with disabilities are twice as likely to develop conditions such as depression, diabetes, and obesity. Make a lasting impact by using skills you learn in this minor to promote inclusion and access to recreation and sport for all.

    Working in adapted physical education requires a range of skills, which are useful in other fields. Strengthen your problem-solving abilities by learning to adapt activities for clients, learn how to communicate with diverse populations, and develop programming for a wide range of clients.
