The world needs artists! Kickstart your art career in a creative environment that supports artistic pursuits in new and traditional media and methodologies.

With options in art studio, art history, and art education, you’ll earn a degree and develop advanced skills in the specialization of your choice while enhancing your research and problem-solving skills. You’ll graduate ready to teach, pursue a graduate degree, or take the next step in your art. The programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Pick Your Path

Your introductory courses include a solid foundation in art and art history, with the flexibility to explore and then specialize in the disciplines that appeal most to you via three options of study: Art Education, Art History, and Art Studio.

Major Options

Choose from one of three options within the major, and then enjoy the opportunity to specialize.

  • Janet Turner Print Museum workshop for kids

    The Option in Art Education

    A direct path to California’s Single Subject Credential in Art, this option provides you with a subject matter competency in art, along with your degree—both of which are required for entrance into an approved California credential program.

    The Option in Art History

    Learn to think critically and globally about visual arts and culture. Your training will prepare you for a career in art history, working in museums, galleries, the academic world, or graduate school, and provide you with research and writing skills translatable to several fields of employment.

    The Option in Art Studio

    You’ll study and excel in eight forms of visual art—ceramics, drawing, digital media, glass design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture—providing you with the skills you need to engage in creative visual expression.

Career Options Abound

Our alumni teach at all levels, own galleries, and work as studio artists, museum curators, illustrators, fashion designers, and muralists. Others work in art publishing, art restoration, film production, graphic design, and more.
