    On Campus

Are you curious about how the world works at a molecular level? Explore the science behind the products you use, the energy that powers our world, and the cutting-edge innovations shaping our future with a minor in chemistry.

You will gain a foundational understanding of chemical principles, bolstered by practical experience using state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation and studio labs in our new Science Building. Prepare yourself for a career in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, environmental science, materials science, and forensics, or qualify for a supplemental authorization for a teaching credential.

Students learn about topics in their General Chemistry I early in the semester.

Unlock the Power of Chemistry

Develop a robust understanding of “the science of change” with classes in introductory, organic, and analytical chemistry, then choose one upper-division elective in biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, or physical chemistry to round out the minor.

More Than Molecules

Chemistry is the bridge between physical, life, and applied sciences, and it will equip you with a diverse skillset transferable to many careers. Whether you are studying biology, engineering, or business, our minor gives you the tools to think critically, solve complex problems, and innovate.

Skills that this minor helps with include:

  • Data interpretation
  • Laboratory techniques
  • Mathematics
  • Problem solving
  • Quantitative analysis
  • Research
  • Scientific literacy

An Interdisciplinary Advantage

Chemistry is a central science, so a minor can enhance understanding in various scientific disciplines and beyond, making you more agile and competitive on the job market.

Majors that pair well with this minor include:

Daniel Clark teaches students about separation, identification, and/or analysis of biological materials
