Become a driving force in improving the health and performance of people of all ages and fitness levels. Our BS in exercise physiology program—the only one in the California State University system and the oldest in the state—blends science-based courses with field experience in our laboratories and testing suites.

Spearhead research to advance knowledge of human performance and health, learn to assist people recovering from injury or illness, or create custom exercise programs. Whether you pursue a career as a physical therapist, strength and conditioning coach, or researcher, your work will have a profound impact on the lives of those you serve.

Master the Science of Fitness

Explore the influence of exercise on human physiology, from the whole body down to the gene. Your coursework includes an introduction to anatomy, physiology, statistics, and kinesiology. You'll also take courses in biology, biomechanics, chemistry, exercise physiology, nutrition, and strength and conditioning.

Shaping Future Leaders

Dive into a rewarding career in the fields of human performance, exercise medicine, and allied healthcare, or find success pursuing an advanced degree. You can lead fitness programs, work in a clinical setting as an exercise physiologist, or guide people through cardiopulmonary rehabilitation at a hospital. Employment of exercise physiologists is projected to grow 10% from 2022 to 2032.

The Chico State exercise physiology program is top-notch and prepared me well for graduate school in physical therapy.
