Become a skilled leader in one of the construction industry’s most in-demand sectors. From building dams and bridges to large highways and industrial plants, heavy civil construction tackles the major projects that allow cities and towns to function.
Our immersive program covers everything from project management and planning to operating large equipment on job sites, preparing you for the big leagues. You’ll learn to create safe, efficient, and cost-effective job plans that pave the way for a brighter future. With unlimited career prospects, you’ll have the option of working for global corporations, government bodies, or running your own firm.
You will learn to navigate all aspects of heavy construction, from operating construction equipment to cost management and setting up temporary structures like scaffolding and ramps. With a required 10-week internship, you’ll have the chance to meet, learn from, and work for future employers who are invested in your educational success.
Up to 35% of companies recruiting from Chico State’s civil engineering program are looking for students with a heavy construction skillset. Our program focuses heavily on developing job-ready skills you’ll use immediately upon graduation, pairing project management with analytical skills and the application of industry-specific standards. This makes the transition from the classroom to the working world feel natural and attainable.
