A minor in history is your license to explore the past and better understand its impact on our present and future. Join a community of passionate faculty and peers to ask deep, complex questions about culture and events, and the people who’ve shaped societies.

Whether you’re a curious history buff or someone wanting to complement your major with a minor that builds strong analytical and research skills, our history program will help prepare you for a bright career or postgraduate studies. With an abundance of opportunities to participate in research, club activities, and community outreach.

Engage the Past, Shape the Future

Ancient and modern eras come together in an immersive curriculum. You’ll take classes in ancient, medieval, and global studies, alongside others that focus specifically on Europe and the United States.

Research Mindset

A minor in history will help prepare you for any career that demands strong research, analytical, writing, and critical thinking skills. Your clear understanding of historical context and skills in evidence-based analysis will support your work as a communicator, manager, or researcher.

A Foundation in Curiosity

A background in history complements almost any major and enhances your ability to understand and connect across cultures and professions.

A Culture of Belonging

The History Club is open to all, and members of the Phi Alpha Theta club edit and produce The Chico Historian, a journal that publishes students' historical research papers written in conjunction with their coursework. Both groups offer students opportunities to connect beyond the classroom.
