Language is one of humanity’s most important and powerful tools. It connects us to one another, allows us to create a sense of self, and can inspire entire generations. A minor in linguistics gives you the opportunity to discover more about how language works and how people learn to use it.

From the emergence of unique dialects to the rise of slang and curse words, you’ll work closely with faculty and peers in the Linguistics Lab researching the way language changes over time. With direct pathways to careers in education, post graduate studies, and teaching English as a second language, you’ll be well-equipped to articulate your next big step in life.

Exercise Your Voice and Choice

From the “Principles of Language” to classes on semantics and sociolinguistics, you’ll analyze the form and function of languages and learn to think critically about languages and linguistic ideas.
