Help students transcend language to learn and grow with a program designed for multilingual educators to bring their talents to grade K–8. With pathways to authorizations in Spanish, Hmong, and Punjabi, you'll be empowered as a bilingual advocate with expertise in sociocultural competence.

Through a blend of coursework and over 600 hours of relevant hands-on experience in rural, multilingual elementary and middle school classroom settings, you'll gain the skills and insight to become a transformative teacher who sees and advocates for the cultural and linguistic advantages of marginalized students and their families.

Pathway to Advocacy

Rooted in the exploration of identity, diversity, and social justice across history and present day, your course will examine topics like gentrification and language policy while emphasizing bilingualism and promoting biliteracy development. You’ll also cultivate classroom strategies to evaluate and enhance programs for multilingual learners.

    Application Information

    All prospective students must complete two different applications for our Teaching Credential Programs, through Cal State Apply and our Teaching Credential Application.

    Application Period

    • Fall: December – March 1
    • Spring: No bilingual authorization candidate applications

    Admission into programs leading to a credential does not guarantee that students will obtain a credential. Credentialing requirements are set by agencies not controlled by or affiliated with the CSU, and these requirements may change at any time. For example, credentialing requirements can include evidence of the right to work in the United States (e.g., Social Security number or taxpayer identification number) or successfully passing a criminal background check. Students are responsible for determining whether they can meet credentialing requirements.

    The Multiple Subject Bilingual Authorization Credential program is designed as a two-semester (one year) program where you will complete required coursework and internship credits. Students who need to complete prerequisite courses may need additional time to complete the program.
