Learn how to provide high-quality physical education in an inclusive environment with our minor in physical education. Gain the skills to help students develop motor and fitness skills and the confidence and ability to be lifelong movers.  

Whether you're planning to teach, coach, or work in community health, this program gives you a strong foundation in physical education pedagogy. From the gym to the classroom to the community, you'll be ready to make a positive difference in people’s lives through physical activity.

A Strong Hands-on Learning Curriculum

You will explore a vast array of topics in courses from an Introduction to Adapted Physical Activity to Rhythms and Dance for Teachers. You will be immersed in instructional experiences in small group school and university settings with K-12 students.

Build Your Skills

This minor builds your ability to teach, coach, and guide others in healthy, active living. You’ll learn how to design inclusive, fun, and developmentally appropriate physical activity programs. 

Skills you will gain include: 
  • Teaching physical education in diverse settings 
  • Coaching and group instruction 
  • Exercise leadership and safety 
  • Motor skill development 
  • Inclusive and adaptive activity planning 
  • Movement analysis and feedback 
  • Leadership and teamwork 

Also, completing this minor with a single subject credential in any other field and you can earn supplemental authorization to teach K-9 physical education. 

Students practice exercises for self-awareness, breathing, relaxation, visualization, and meditation.

Our program is ideal for students who are earning a degree and teaching license in a subject area other than the physical education.

An Engaging Educational Experience

Work with clients of all ages and abilities in a variety of settings through programs like PARADISE U, the Autism Clinic, and BE: WEL, and internships. You will develop leadership, organizational, and self-management skills, as well as the work experience you need to get ahead.
